Biography

“I didn’t start my fitness career the conventional way as I worked in a different industry until I was well into my 30’s. However, I started to change my lifestyle and became fitter and stronger in my 20’s.

I started running, cycling, circuit training and with a strong background in martial arts of kung fu and kick boxing, found this really stimulated me mentally and physically, becoming fitter, stronger, and changed my body shape and now I compete in sprint triathlons.

Having achieved a diploma in biomechanics, which involves an assessment of the spine, hips, shoulders, knees and feet gave me a greater understanding as to why we move the way we do, and how different we all are.

I pride myself in getting the right results for my clients, many with some fantastic transformations.
The key for me is in the coaching. I want to inspire others to work on their physical wellbeing between our sessions which, in turn I feel helps with the mental wellbeing as it gives focus and a real sense of accomplishment.

At the same time, by helping others, I am re-educating myself because everyone has not only different goals, but differing views, lifestyles, issues, injuries and limitations - all of which challenge me to research more and bridge those gaps in my knowledge plus gaining experience.

Setting and achieving realistic goals and making new ones to continue their fitness journey.

Covid has challenged us all – but it has given me the chance to learn more about myself. In particular how resilient mentally I needed to be and to keep learning – "every day is a school day.”

“I can’t believe it’s been 3 and a half years!  Thank you Mark PT Cox for all the support.  Every session was different, and I may have moaned at some things (burpees, watt bike!) it was always fun. I going to miss the two hours a week. I used to think personal training wasn’t needed and that really I knew what I was doing.  You have showed me how to improve on technique and how small changes can bring big improvements, changing my goals as I progressed. The constant encouragement even when I was moaning was a great help (even if I didn’t do that pull up!). My biggest achievement though is knowing my Turkish get-ups are better than yours! Anyone at Bannatyne’s who is thinking of giving PT a go definitely have a chat to Mark. Thank you for showing me what I can achieve.  My next trainer has a lot to live up to.”  Katherine D

"I’ve been training with Mark for 5+ years now both in person and online and the progress in my fitness and strength has exceeded my expectations. As a keen runner he has always guided me and gave me the support and confidence to complete the London Marathon this year! With his fantastic knowledge of Biomechanics and functional training he always delivers thoroughly enjoyable and fun training sessions-I couldn’t be happier!"  Georgina

I have worked with Mark for several years since moving to my present home in Arlesey. Having watched several Personal Trainers at work in Bannatynes Gym here, I chose Mark for the quality and range of his training exercises for strength and flexibility, plus the progress checks and feedback he has given me. I have seen him training clients within a wide range of age and capability groups and I would confidently recommend him as your Personal Trainer of choice. I have worked with a few very good Personal Trainers over the past ten years or so, and Mark is the best one at tailoring his training sessions to suit my ability and goals equally. Signed off by David Smith, age 79 years and still going strong."  David Smith (79)

"I would highly recommend Mark Cox as a Personal Trainer. His positive attitude has really kept me going, and I have enjoyed his training techniques and am very grateful for his support. I came to Mark not only with a weight problem but also suffering with Type 2 diabetes. Upon my consultation I was greeted with a friendly welcome and met with nothing but organisation, and professionalism. Working with Mark on my fitness has been great. He has been nothing but encouraging and supportive of all aspects of my wellbeing.  Our sessions were always hard work but always with an element of fun, enjoyment being so important to keep me motivated. Mark has also been flexible when it comes to my busy working schedule and makes sure to always fit me in. He has also become a good friend as well as my trainer. Mark has a very good way of getting more out of someone and I have benefitted by becoming stronger, leaner now having a much better posture. Mark has also significantly lowered my cholesterol and body fat numbers. I would recommend Mark as a Personal Trainer to anyone; at whatever level of fitness, they are at."  Charles Forte
