UK Fitness Sector Moves to Tackle the “Forgotten Referral” Crisis as YOUR Personal Training Partners with Good Boost

7th June 2026

Every year across the UK, thousands of people are referred into physical activity by GPs and healthcare professionals to help manage chronic pain, obesity, cardiovascular risk, arthritis, mental health challenges and long-term conditions.

But for many, the journey ends the moment they walk through the doors of a gym.

Despite growing recognition that exercise is one of the most powerful tools in preventative healthcare, there remains no consistent, scalable support system to help referred individuals exercise safely, confidently and sustainably once they enter mainstream fitness environments. Many feel intimidated, unsupported or unsure where to begin, leading to poor adherence, low confidence and missed health outcomes.

YOUR Personal Training has announced a major new partnership with Good Boost, the award-winning therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation platform, to help close that gap.

James Lorey, Co-Owner & Director, YOUR Personal Training: "Too often, people are referred into exercise environments and then effectively left to navigate them alone. This partnership is about creating a more joined-up experience where technology, coaching and community work together to help people stay active safely, confidently and long-term."

Suzanne Gabb (COO) Good Boost continues; "The future of healthcare isn't confined to hospitals or GP surgeries, it exists within communities. By partnering with YOUR Personal Training, we can help more people access personalised support in spaces they already know and trust."

The partnership also signals a growing opportunity for fitness professionals to play a more meaningful role in population health management, particularly as the NHS and local authorities continue to explore scalable community-based solutions for inactivity, ageing populations and long-term conditions.

For operators, the collaboration creates new pathways for member retention, community impact and healthcare integration, while for consumers it promises a more supportive and less intimidating route into exercise.

As the lines between healthcare, rehabilitation and fitness continue to blur, partnerships like this may offer a blueprint for what the next generation of gyms and coaching environments could look like: connected, preventative, inclusive and genuinely outcome-driven.

Together, the organisations aim to create a more connected pathway between healthcare and fitness combining clinically-informed, AI-powered exercise prescription with real-world coaching, accountability and human support inside gyms and leisure facilities across the UK.

The partnership represents a significant shift in how the fitness industry approaches health referral populations: moving beyond simply "getting people through the door" and instead focusing on long-term behaviour change, confidence and sustainable movement.

For a sector increasingly positioned at the forefront of preventative health, the collaboration also signals a wider evolution of gyms into community health hubs, spaces capable of supporting not just fitness goals, but long term health.
