Hey, I'm Richard Wathern, a Personal Trainer / Fitness coach based at Brockworth & Tuffley Holmleigh Halo Leisure Centres. My fitness journey began in 2010, when I set out to increase my functional movement and strength. Achieving my PB’s (personal best) goal bodyweight barbell bench press bodyweight weight and half for Barbell Squats and double bodyweight for deadlift was a defining moment that showed me what the human body is truly capable of when you combine dedication and consistency with food and proper training. Then I incorporated Olympic movements and functional strength more with Olympic rings and Olympic weightlifting. I keep finding new life style goals for longevity and healthier lifestyle. This achievement and progression in other fitness methods ignited a fire within me to help others unlock their own strength and potential.
I believe that true fitness is built on a foundation of functional strength and movement. The workouts were difficult but was always fun. The objective to go as far as I could go rather than do as well as others took a lot out of the stigma of going to the gym.

I’ve been train with Rich since march 2020 and can’t recommend him highly enough. Richard has provided me with the knowledge and has motivated me in making progress towards my goals. Sessions with Richard are focused and targeted and thought out. I’ve been very happy with the progress made to date and certainly couldn’t have done it with out RIchard's expertise and guidance.

I’ve been training with Richard for over 3 years now, and believe he is one of the most experienced & committed trainers around. I was training with him two to three times a week and I really enjoyed the variety & challenge he put into the sessions.

I went from 108kg to 90kg in weight, making a noticeable visible difference whilst actually increasing muscle and strength. Thanks to Richard with his help, I reached many personal bests and even got a PB on bench press of 150kg!

– He is extremely reliable & punctual – always set up & ready to start training ahead of time, with an exercise routine planned.
– He helped me plan my meals and discussed my diet with me.
– He sent me regular motivational messages to make sure I was keeping on top of my diet and training goals.

I had PT sessions working with Rich to prepare me for beginning a gym membership for the first time. Although I was quite intimidated by the idea of strength training, Rich immediately put me at ease with his friendly manner and good humour. I always felt comfortable asking questions and really improved during the course of my sessions. I’ll definitely be checking in with Rich when I’m back in the area again!

I’ve been working with Richard on a 1-2-1 basis since the beginning of July. I suffered a ruptured Achilles in September 2023 and had issues with the strength in my lower right leg. I am totally delighted with how I am progressing to date, and as we build the strength in my right leg my confidence to use it has returned. Richard is very professional and knowledgeable. This is reflected in the training plan he has developed for me. Richard also highlighted some tightness in my hips and as a result he has added exercises to my plan to address them. Based on my experiences, I’d highly recommend him as a Personal Trainer.
