Plymouth’s rapidly growing fitness community is set for a major uplift following the announcement of a new strategic partnership between YOUR Personal Training (YPT), the UK’s largest self-employed personal training career platform, and Plymouth Active, the city’s premier leisure operator.

The collaboration will see YOUR PT recruit and continue to develop high-quality, self-employed Personal Trainers across Plymouth Active’s facilities, including the iconic Plymouth Life Centre and Plympton Swimming Pool & Gym, continuing to add a high standard of coaching available to local members at a time when demand for performance-focused fitness has never been higher.

Why YOUR Personal Training is partnering with Plymouth Active

With the explosive growth of global fitness racing events like Hyrox, strength and conditioning training, functional fitness and endurance-based competition are becoming increasingly mainstream and Plymouth gym-goers are upping their training to support ambitious training goals. The partnership aims to meet that demand head-on.

YOUR PT, which works with 420+ leading gym and leisure operators nationwide, specialises in helping talented trainers build successful careers while delivering industry-leading coaching standards inside gyms and leisure centres. By joining forces with Plymouth Active, the organisations hope to position Plymouth as a city leading the way in accessible, high-quality fitness support for everyday members, not just elite athletes.

James Lorey, Co-Owner of YOUR Personal Training, said: “Plymouth already has an incredibly strong fitness culture and some fantastic facilities, so this partnership is a huge opportunity to build on that momentum. We’re seeing more people than ever wanting to train with purpose, whether that’s preparing for Hyrox or a Triathlon, improving strength and fitness, or simply wanting expert support to feel healthier and more confident in the gym environment. Plymouth Active offers world-class facilities in the heart of the community, and we’re excited to bring in talented, driven Personal Trainers who can genuinely raise the bar for members across the city.”

Rhys Jones, CEO of Plymouth Active, added: “At Plymouth Active, we’re passionate about helping the people of Plymouth become more active, healthier and happier. Personal training can be transformational for members at every stage of their fitness journey, and partnering with YOUR Personal Training gives us access to some of the industry’s best talent and development support. As fitness trends continue to evolve, particularly around functional training and impressive fitness events like Hyrox, it’s important that our members have access to knowledgeable, motivating professionals who can help them train safely, effectively and confidently.”

What self-employed personal trainer roles are available at Plymouth Active?

The partnership creates exciting opportunities for local fitness professionals looking to develop flexible, self-employed careers within some of Plymouth’s best-known leisure facilities.

The placement is managed through YOUR Personal Training and covers two venues under a single arrangement: Plymouth Life Centre and Plympton Swimming Pool & Gym. Plymouth Life Centre is one of the South West’s most comprehensive leisure facilities, with a 150-station gym, three group exercise studios including a HY-NRG HIIT studio, an indoor climbing centre that is one of the largest in the South West, and a world-class diving pool home to Olympic diver Tonia Couch and previously Tom Daley. Plympton Swimming Pool & Gym offers a 30-station gym and a 25-metre pool serving the Plympton area. Multi-centre access across both venues is included under a single placement.

The package includes one month rent-free at launch, followed by reduced rates for the following three months as you build your client base, before the standard licence fee applies. You keep 100% of your session earnings throughout. Business support includes the Advanced Business Course, a structured programme covering pricing, client acquisition, and retention, alongside LevelUp, a free year-round programme of in-person and online education sessions delivered by globally recognised educators in health and fitness.

A self-employed PT working full-time through this placement can realistically earn £2,500 to £4,500+ per month by month six. Indeed’s Plymouth salary data, updated April 2026, puts the broader market average at £24,420 per year – but that figure covers all PT employment types across the city. Across two well-used leisure facilities with an established membership base, your earning potential is determined by your session rate, client volume, and how consistently you build your business.

How do you apply for a personal trainer role at Plymouth Active?

Personal trainers interested in opportunities with YOUR PT at Plymouth Active can apply directly through the Plymouth Life Centre PT job listing or visit the Plymouth Active brand hub for full details on the role, both facilities, and the package.
